Requested by

Charity Foundation Uganda

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

The Charity Foundation Uganda is a community based NGO that operates in the Luuka district. We provide vocational skills designed to lead to job creation and we promote saving and credit schemes. We are also interested in environmental conservation and health.

We want to assist young people and women, particularly widows and women who head households, orphans and school dropouts through the provision of entrepreneurship and vocational training which will help to improve their income and bring jobs to the community.

What is your project and how will it help?

a) The project is an entrepreneurship and vocational skills development programme for youth and women in Bukanga sub county.

b) Target groups:
The project is targeting over 3000 beneficiaries including 800 women, 200 vulnerable children and 300 orphaned young people who have dropped out of school because of extreme poverty and the death of family wage earners. An estimated 2000 indirect beneficiaries are expected to benefit from this project.

c) Project activities:
The project has been planned strategically:
• Training of the project member beneficiaries in knitting, embroidery and tailoring
• Equipping members with skills in saving and credit schemes
• Auditing and evaluation of the project activities
• Training members in entrepreneurship skills

d) Project goal:
Entrepreneurship and vocational skills empowerment of women, youth and OVCs and care takers aimed at improving their socio-economic standards for sustainable development.

e) Project rationale:
1. The project will benefit the targeted group by improving their income base through training them in tailoring, knitting and embroidering, boosting savings and credit and teamwork.
2. The project will enhance community involvement at all levels through project sensitization committees. It will greatly improve incomes through participation in communal saving and establishment of tailoring ,knitting and embroidery initiatives that will supply the community, schools and other establishments with items such as school uniforms, cardigan, baby headbands, sweaters both long and short sleeved, table mats, and all other knitting product through a team work approach.
3. The project will create jobs and employments directly and indirectly in the community.
