Funding required for Girl Power Project in Uganda

Requested by

Care for African Kids

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

Care for African Kids (CFAK) is a Ugandan NGO that takes care of 165 children at its orphanage centre in Wakiso, and provides support towards the childrens’ shelter, education, medication, clothing, and food while also attemping to prevent child abuse and violence and the spread of HIV/AIDS, and also to empower the community.

Our work is also to participate in fully achieving the goal of women’s emancipation. We believe that girls, being the women and mothers of tomorrow, are the main key in the development of countries all over the world. That is why education should be equally important for women and men. But the lack of resources leads to a high percentage of women leaving school, and therefore being uneducated and less able to care for their children. In East Africa unemployment is caused by school drop outs, inadequate jobs, suspension of studies and widespread poverty.

Indeed, while the majority of girls who drop out of school tend to leave villages to move to towns looking for jobs, others remain in villages waiting for an opportunity Many girls leave school early to work somewhere or to get married. This generally leads to high illiteracy and unemployment rates among women and girls in Uganda.

We really want to help such women and girls by providing resources for them to acquire relevant vocational skills which will help them to improve their position in society, have a better future and avoid prostitution and other evils.

What is your project and how will it help?

Our project is called ‘’Girl Power Project’’. It is mainly to set up a vocational school called Africa Cares Vocational Training Centre, which will be located in Buwali Kakiri Wakiso Uganda. Through this we will try to reintegrate girls who drop out of school and provide them with skills through vocational education. Girls from the streets will be integrated into this school to equip them with practical skills. This will help to reduce prostitution or sex abuse in general. There is also the possibility of shaping the future of poor girls as far as practical skills are concerned.

So, our project will help underprivileged women and girls in the central region of Uganda that includes the Wakiso and Mpigi districts where we have orphanages, and more precisely over 824 people.

After this project, we plan to extend to neighbouring communities and African countries as well as other countries such as Pakistan through Akneel, and India through Dr. J.Christopher Daniel`s NGO.

In our projects we have four common goals:
- To act as a medium through which society can wake up and realize the importance of women in society.
- To contribute to the growth and development of rural areas through the provision of vocational and technicals skill to women. These skills will help in the transformation of societies.
- To act as a medium through which vocational education can be used to reduce poverty in our societies.
- To train women to not only get jobs, but also to fit into society by creating a professional mentality in women in order to enable them enhance their image in society and be independent in the job market.

In order to reach these goals, we need donors or/and corporates to provide funding.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

Other people can partner with us by:
-Sharing information that may be needed for inclusion in the project
-Giving us funds to buy skills and furniture
-Buying educational equipment themselves and sending it to us
-Moving with us and coming to help us on site
-Giving resources in whatever form possible
We request more partnership, volunteers, sponsors, donors, friendship from organizations, companies, governments, schools, and associations all over the world because your help and words of inspiration keep us moving closer to our goals.

Please detail the resources that you need.
