COWAFI was established in 2008 in Lira district with aim of engaging rural farmers groups into partnerships to produce crops identified by COFAWI for the different investors based on what is demanded in the market. COFAWI was incorporated with the registrar this year 2016 as an independent institution ready to work with any investor.

Enable production of quality agricultural products that meet the Regional/ International market standards.
It is committed to improving standards of farming and marketing in Uganda through innovations, applied research, education and community-based services.

Consultation consists of, on the one hand, communicating farmers’ view of their situation and that of the agricultural sector, and on the other, participating in influencing the formulation of agricultural policy and the options to be considered in rural development.
And should give farmers’ institutions the right to sit in all decision-making bodies examining agricultural questions, from the local to the national level.
To properly exercise this function, farmers’ institutions should have the capacity to:

 obtain up-to-date information on production channels, the different categories of farmers, and to analyze the micro and macroeconomic factors which determine their activities;
 formulate, with the participation of farmers, proposals to improve the condition of different categories of farmers, and production channels;
