Give Me Shelter

Give Me Shelter is a campaign to encourage festival-goers
to donate their tents and other camping items to charity.

Every year, thousands of tents, sleeping bags and camping mats are left behind after festivals.

Many of the abandoned tents are set alight, trashed or soiled. Others are in good condition, but in the past they would all be sent to landfill. We want to change that.

Your tent could change lives…

We will be collecting tents at the coming festivals at Leeds and Reading.

If you’re going along to one of these festivals, how about donating your camping gear? All you have to do is:

1) Check that your tent (and wellies, sleeping bag, camping mat etc) has made it to the end of the festival in good condition. Pack it up.

2) Bring it to one of the collection points and hand it in. We will aim to get it to the people who need it the most.

If you have no idea where the collection points are, look out for Give Me Shelter volunteers in t-shirts with our blue and green logo.

Pack it up. Hand it in. Change lives.

Melvin Benn, Director of Glastonbury Festival, said:

"Glastonbury Festival is delighted this year to be working with Global Hand on the Give Me Shelter campaign. There has been a growing problem with the amount of surplus camping equipment and other goods that are left behind after the festival. The environmental impact is immense, and also we are learning of the social cost, principally that this equipment could be used in other parts of the world. Give Me Shelter helps us to reduce waste, meet needs and help people to think seriously about their responsibility to environmental and social issues."
