Development of art therapy for psychiatric disorders by Pfizer Slovakia

Pfizer Slovakia decided to support League for Mental Health in the development of art-therapy, through the project “Searching for a talent”.

Pfizer launched in 2007 a Slovak national challenge in the visual arts “We Are Looking for Talent” with the ambition to promote art therapy as a remarkable part of complex diagnostics and the treatment of patients who suffer from mental illnesses. Together with patients’ association the Mental Health League, Pfizer called all specialists taking care of patients with psychiatric disorders to start the creation of artworks. 82 patients joined the challenge and presented more than 400 works of art (drawings, paintings, and collage). A special commission then selected the best works and the most talented authors.

Pfizer organized vernissage of the patients’ artworks which were presented publicly in the Bratislava’s downtown gallery during the ‘Week of Mental Health’. The ten best authors attended a visual arts workshop that was organized by Pfizer in cooperation with Mental Health League, which took place in early August 2007.The workshop helped patients to improve their painting techniques and skills. The most talented authors were awarded during a vernissage in Bratislava at the concert hall Klarisky and their works were exhibited there for one month.
