Borehole (water) project funding and donation of knitting/sewing machines and computers, Zambia

Requested by

Tug Argan Pentecostal Assemblies of God (Z)

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

We are trying to help a community of underprivileged near Ndola in Zambia.

This community lacks a close source of water –the closest one is 1 km away by foot. These community also does not have education for young people, who in the absence of educational or healthy activities just loiter permanently.

The issues we are trying to address are:
1. The water problem
2. Poverty eradication
3. Loitering due to lack of activities
4. Lack of skills education and of formal jobs

What is your project and how will it help?

The project consists first in digging a borehole to provide water to the community.

This will help alleviate the standard of living of the community. Some years ago we had started a Nursery school project that was discontinued due to lack of water and poor sanitation. A bore hole could save this project.

Secondly, the project also plans to give computing, sewing and knitting skills to the youth.
Currently we have two buildings available, which will very probably be used for the knitting and sewing project for women. We also have some computers which are already being used to give basic computing lessons.

This in order to help youths to get useful skills which they need
to get formal employments as well as to help them start their own businesses.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

People and organisations can partner with us by:

1. ‘Adopting’ a child who goes to school by paying the school fees
2. Supporting the mentioned projects (water project, knitting and sewing project, computing project)
3. Supporting the Church and the pastor in charge of this project
4. Other partnership ideas are welcome

Please detail the resources that you need.

We need:

1) Funds for the water borehole project: about US$ 8,000
Of which, US$ 6,000 for the drilling
US$ 8,000 for the over head tank
US$ 8,000 for the workers and complimentary expenses

2) Donated goods
10 computers. If possible with a printer and copier.
10 sewing machines
5 knitting machines
