Construction of school and community development in Uganda
Requested by
Divine Preparatory Schools GombaWho are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?
We are a community based organisation that runs a school in a rural area of Uganda, approximately 70 miles from the capital. The population is poor, there is no electricity, and there are many problems in regard to the water.
We provide nursery and primary education to children between 3 and 14, and would like to be able to expand our provision by establishing a high school. There are no high schools in the area, and thus very little future for the children, most of whom end up working in agriculture.
What is your project and how will it help?
Our project is the establishment of a high school.
The people who will benefit from this project include:
1) poor children
2) women, more especially single mothers
3) young people who leave the villages to look for work in towns
4) elderly people who are have many dependents
The things the project intends to do include:
1) Construction of a model school since it is the key for the future;
2) Creation of a demonstration farm for the farmers to learn the best methods of farming;
3) Provide clean reliable water sources throughout the year for the community
4) Creation of a forum for the community to express their rights.
How can other people partner with you on your project?
Other people can partner with us by:
1) Coming as volunteers
2) Taking part in the construction of the classrooms either by sending money or physically coming and working with us
3) Sending study materials which will help the children
4) Sinking boreholes as we have a huge water problem
5) Participating in agriculture activities either by teaching farmers, or by providing seeds, and other agriculture materials
6) Participating in workshops for development and human rights or funding them
Please detail the resources that you need.
Please see the attached document for an estimate of the costs.
