Vocational training and HIV/AIDS awareness to vulnerable groups in Uganda

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

We are helping our community through the Palmyrah Workers Development Society by working on a project for disadvantaged people in our society; women with disabilities, widows, orphans, and teenage mothers. We address the issues on poverty, gender based violence, HIV/Aids prevalence, and entrepreneurship.

What is your project and how will it help?

Our projects aim at integrating trades through innovation trainings for the most vulnerable groups (400 people for 24 months) in our community to increase their capability to be self-reliant and self-employed by equipping themselves with semi skills like motor mechanics, driving, catering and carpentry which at least will enable them tap their potentials to earn a living.

The project will also create awareness on HIV/AIDS prevention among these groups. Extra focus will be towards in the areas with many truck drivers and the barracks like at the Malaba boarder, Tororo cement area and Rubongi. These areas are mapped as the most at risk popular areas for HIV/AIDS spread in which its attraction has delivered numerous problems.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

We are seeking help from people who would support the project kindly or in-kind through funding or sponsoring equipment, buying our products or giving relevant information to the project about development in relation to our activities.
