Help equipping Mercy Training Centre, Uganda

Requested by

People's Mercy Foundation

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

Over 120 young ladies complete primary school every academic year, the few secondary schools that exists are far away – mainly located in trading centers. Additionally parents do not have money to pay for the tuition fee for their children to get a secondary education.

Proposing this project is a result of the community need to improve the education standards thereby promoting development. The parents feel a responsibility to ensure their children, especially girls, to get vacationed skills – enabling them to earn a living. However, lack of financial support has hindered hundreds to start up the project as infrastructure and vocational instruction materials are required to start up the project.

What is your project and how will it help?

Generally, the projects aims to uplift the standards of women and girls in the area by promoting post primary institution, which also will promote women and girls potential to participate in the development of the local community in particular and the country at large.

A well equipped hairdressing laboratory is proposed to be established and a feasibility study has been done which has proved to be a viable source of income to support women and girls due to the existence of a large market. The project is proposed to bring an average monthly income of 250.000 per month and women and girls are willing to get the necessary training. The beneficiaries of the hair dressing project are to take care of the project that has been established under the guidance of the trainers. The major responsibility of women and girls will therefore be to take care of the laboratory and get necessary skills that will lead them become self- reliant.
