Fairtrade hopes for Cadbury cocoa farmers in Ghana

Cadbury Cocoa Partnership scheme tries to help the farmers who provide the company with its raw material.

Cadbury has selected 100 villages in Ghana for a scheme to help the farmers who provide the company with its raw material to improve their yields. Spending £45m pounds over 10 years, the idea behind the Cadbury Cocoa Partnership scheme is that villagers increase production and earn more cash from the cocoa and decide for themselves what to spend it on. Alongside the Cocoa Partnerships Scheme, last year Cadbury announced that all the cocoa used in its famous Dairy Milk bars would be from Fairtrade-certified cocoa communities. After just 18 months of making this commitment, Cadbury said Ghanaian farmers have shared an extra £2.5m which they have chosen to spend on various projects including a mobile clinic.
