Empowerment of skills and health for people with disabilities, Ghana
Requested byCommunity Rehabilitation Advocates For Transformation (C.R.A.F.T.)
Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?
Our focus is on People with Disability.
There exist various health problems and challenges especially in the rural areas where the opportunity to take part in daily activities that add to a person’s growth, mental development, fulfillment, and community contribution are so limited.
Lack of employable and entrepreneurial skills, joblessness and unemployment are some of the most crucial problems facing communities of people with disability and society at large. As a result people with disability are generally excluded from employment and community life thereby hampering their overall economic independence.
What is your project and how will it help?
SKILLS ACQUISITION & EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
Though there exist various programmes initiated by government and corporate organisation for improving the skills levels of the general work force, little attention has been given to the benefit of empowerment of people with disability. Some who have acquired vocational training are not equipped with the right entrepreneurial skills required to enhance competitiveness for decent employment, job creation, social inclusion and poverty reduction.
The Skills Acquisition & Empowerment Program aims to develop community values that will profitably engage people with disability to promote economic and professional independence through vocational skills training and business management making optimum use of available resources.
IMPROVED HEALTH & WELLNESS PROGRAM
People with disability play an important and valued role in every community. All people, including people with disability, must have the opportunity to take part in important daily activities that add to a person’s growth, development, fulfillment, and community contribution. People with disability often have restrictions on healthy living due to lack of ease of access to medical aids and facilities, inadequate financial resources and fear of discrimination. There is critical need to remove these restrictions to enable people with disability to become more independent and involved in their world. Good health is important to be able to work, learn, and be engaged within a community. That means having the tools and information to make healthy choices and knowing how to prevent illness.
The Improved Health & Wellness Program aims to provide information for people with disability about healthy living, safety, independent living, and finding support as well as equip them with aid material to enhance independent living and community contribution.
