Safe To Talk Anti-Bullying Campaign

Requested by

Literacy To Legacy, Inc.

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

Literacy to Legacy, Inc provides a wide range of services. All of our students are referred to service professionals who subscribe to our philosophy of providing a bridge for students to go to the next level. We can combine any of our services to provide the perfect fit for the student and meet them at their need. Our programs include tutoring, college and life coaching, test preparation for the graduation exit exam and waiver, and GED testing. Our tutors and coaches give individualized attention to students reinforcing and bringing them back at their levels by using differentiated learning styles to ensure success. We also work with students with special needs. Most recently, we have started an anti-bullying campaign to assist students with the tools needed to combat bullying in schools. This anti-bullying campaign is going to serve different school systems, and has already proven results such as resolving; 820 counts of bullying, 694 counts of crisis counselling, 396 counts of harassment, 386 counts of drugs, 378 counts of weapons, 362 counts of safety risks, 176 counts of cyber bullying, 168 counts of fighting, 158 counts of physical abuse, 150 counts of stealing, 88 counts of vandalism and 78 counts of cheating.

What is your project and how will it help?

We are trying to implement The Safe To Talk Anti-Bullying Campaign into a school system that is requesting support. The Campaign is addressing the need for students to provide information anonymously to prevent deaths, suicides, fights, drug incidents, cheating, harassment, and issues affecting our students, parents, teachers and school officials.

By Providing the tools and resources we will rectify some of the on-going devastating statistics associated with bullying in the schools and give school systems the tools to ensure success in combating these problems.

Overall, everyone gains from this project. Students can feel comfortable reporting incidents that most times go unreported due to different variables. Parents can also report suspicious behaviour and feel comfortable knowing that these measures are in place to provide safety for their children; teachers can once again use the teaching-learning day for just that… teaching-learning, and not for incidents that occur too frequently in our classrooms that interrupt the school day. The school system, in general, will benefit from having a safe and nurturing district for student to achieve success in.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

People can partner with us by providing funding.

First, because each of us have been students at one time, and many of us will have, or have, children of our own that are students. Children and teens need a safe voice. There are very real issues everyday that can be prevented, if the right tools are in place.

Second, because causes are only as important as the awareness they raise. Literacy to Legacy is doing everything they can, with their limited resources, to raise awareness of these issues. But it isn’t enough. We need prominent and influential figures to speak out, and help create a movement that the general public will adopt; that bullying and school violence HAS TO STOP.

Please detail the resources that you need.
