Hygiene supplies needed to support schools for Kosovo refugee children in Serbia

Requested by

Blythswood Care Verified non-profit organisation

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

Blythswood Care is helping school children in an OS Sveti Sava school located in Ribnica near Kraljevo, Serbia. The area is also known as ‘Little Kosovo.’A large number of these children fled Kosovo during the conflict or have been born of parents who fled Kosovo. Ribnica housed a very large IDP Collective centre.

The school was built as a temporary structure back in 1965. Although plans have been prepared for a replacement school, the economic situation in the country as a whole prevents the commencement of the new school.

Because of the age of the buildings and restricted funds, the school parliament consisiting of 13 and 14 year old pupils, with the approval of the Director approached Blythswood Care for help.

What is your project and how will it help?

Blythswood care has been associated with the school for over six years, supplying donated school furniture, musical and sports equipment and educational supplies.

The school has 5 toilet blocks, non of which are suitable for ‘children designated for inclusive education’.

The project consists of a joint working party in late April, consisting of Blythswood volunteers, staff and pupils of the school; to refurbish all toilets and to adapt one toilet area for disabled pupils.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

We are looking for donors of materials. A long standing partnership with a Northern Ireland manufacturer has ensured we will have the paint and tile grout.

Please detail the resources that you need.

We are in need of:

1. Fixture and fittings for the disabled toilet.
2. 8 ceiling light fittings with shades. ES type.
3. 8 hand soap dispensers.
4. Liquid soap.
5. 8 paper towek dispensers.
6. Paper towels. NB. Due to the ‘temporary structure’ we cannot install electric hand driers.
7. Rubbish bins. (Trash cans)
8. 24 White tiles 6″ × 6″. to replace cracked tiles.
