The American Bar Association (ABA) is the national professional association for the nation’s lawyers and provides a wide range of services to its members and the public. The ABA’s mission is to serve equally its members, its profession and the public by defending liberty and delivering justice as the national representative of the legal profession. With more than 400,000 members, the ABA provides law school accreditation, continuing legal education, information about the law, programs to assist lawyers and judges in their work, and initiatives to improve the legal system for the public. ABA membership is open to lawyers admitted to practice and in good standing before the bar of any state or territory of the United States. Individuals, who are not admitted to practice law in any jurisdiction, but have an interest in the work of the ABA and also members of the legal profession in other nations are eligible to become associates of ABA.
