Funding needed to proceed with Youth Computer Literacy Project in Pakistan

Requested by

Peace through Education and Sports (PTEAS)

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

PTEAS is struggling for access to computer literacy of the less – fortunate youth mostly young girls living in slums of city Faisalabad. 4 Computer centers will be set up in deserving locations of the city where youth will be trained in both basic and professional computer courses for the future empowerment of themselves and their families. City Faisalabad is highly populace and third largest city of Pakistan with vast ratio of communities living under extreme conditions of poverty with just little literacy rate. Access to advance technological computer education is not availed by the youth living in slums as they could not afford and yet remained deprived of official or table jobs where computer literacy is essentially required. This opportunity is taken by elite class thus youth from middle or lower class could not get computer literacy due to lack of resources prevailing the status – quo of rich becoming richest and poor becoming poorer. This not for profit Computer Literacy Project will provide opportunities for slum youth where average fee package will be offered which could be easily affordable by them, students will be equipped with basic and professional computer courses and assisted with guidance to get official jobs by making good use of their computer skills.

What is your project and how will it help?

60 computer systems and several printers will be donated by Lions Club Australia for this Computer Literacy Project, while PTEAS in consultation with local partners will organize 4 computer centers for less – fortunate youth living in slums of city Faisalabad. Faisalabad is identified since communities there are highly remote and poverty hit and thus the need for computer education to change livelihood is urgent. This computer donation will be transferred by Lions Club in October for the purpose of computer literacy of targeted youth, 4 qualified teachers will be appointed while PTEAS team will guide participants for getting official employment making good use of their diplomas.
This initiative will help reduce poverty and find solution to the development challenges in the targeted communities. Project will originate opportunity for enrolled youth towards sustainability for themselves and their families along with respectable and regular earning. Their educational scope will become wider with advanced computer literacy equipping them to access global information and capability of exploring solutions to their development and sustainability barriers. PTEAS team will also disseminate reports and update on computer centers to promote issues of focused communities and the importance of computer literacy.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

People can help by provision of service and personnel as well as goods.
PTEAS has invited interested youth or skilled persons for volunteering in the project. As this project has strong conviction of creating computer literacy opportunity for youth from slum communities, PTEAS seeks to partner with interested individuals and organizations for progress of the project (implementation, administration or monitoring of the project) which will contribute to the well being of targeted youth and communities as well.
PTEAS has involved active local partners for this project; Lions Club Australia has highly supported this project through computers and printers donation. Meanwhile there has been basic requirements including costs of shipment contribution, internal transportation, agent fee, salaries of teachers, furniture, etc.

Please detail the resources that you need.

PTEAS is required to contribute 500 AUD for shipment costs despite total shipment cost is 2000 AUD from which remaining 1500 AUD will be contributed by Lions Club Australia.
PTEAS has following needs assessment for this project:
Shipment contribution to Lions Club Australia = 500 AUD (453 USD)

Furniture for 4 centers: 1200 USD
Internal transportation: 600 USD
Agent fee: 200 USD
Total: 2453 USD
Salaries of 4 teachers: 400 USD (per month)
