International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) - Thailand

Unverified non-profit organisation

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a Swiss-based humanitarian organisation with offices in many countries worldwide. Its mission is to work on a strictly neutral basis to protect and assist people affected by armed conflicts and internal disturbances. It directs and coordinates international relief activities related to the distribution of safe water, food and medical assistance. Reminding warring parties of their rights and obligations under international humanitarian law (IHL) is one of the ICRC’s major activities worldwide. It is a founding body of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. In Thailand the ICRC promotes the ratification and implementation of humanitarian treaties and the integration of IHL instruction into national military training. Since August 2004, detention visits have been made to those held in relation to the upsurge in violence in Thailand’s three southern provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.
