Support orphans and other vulnerable children of local Andhra Pradesh tribes, India

Requested by

4 The People Service Organization

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

Among the underdeveloped tribes of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, India, orphans and other vulnerable children are in greater need of support today than ever before. In the past, we have invested in programs that give these children access to education, health care services, shelter, food and psychosocial support. The overwhelming numbers of orphans and other vulnerable children we are receiving on a daily basis are straining our limited resources so we are beginning to look elsewhere for support.

What is your project and how will it help?

Our project is meant to help 250 children from the tribal villages of Madugula, Chintapalli and Paderu access education, health care services, shelter, food and psychosocial support.

Our prime intention behind the implementation of our Child Care project among these underdeveloped tribal communities is to mitigate circumstances surrounding their demands for social and economic change.

Our recent report on the future of these communities reveals that certain negative cultural practices are being employed as alternatives; that if left unchecked, sooner or later, they will have placed many children in extremely vulnerable positions.

Sample rate of increased vulnerability shows that there are many young women today who are left with no choice except getting married. In most cases, these young mothers are also incapable of raising their children, and in a majority of cases, they abandon their children to look for alternative livelihood.

With our limited source of funding we have adopted 21 tribal orphans and vulnerable children. Within a short time, we have seen great development in these children. Today they are such a great source of hope and are moving in the right direction for a fulfilled life in the future.

How can other people partner with you on your project?
