Operational funding and supplies for slum school in Nairobi, Kenya

Requested by

Bright Mission Learning Centre

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

We at Bright Vision Learning Centre are trying to help the less fortunate children who cannot afford education and would otherwise stay at home to help their parents make ends meet.

We are looking for funds to help run the school since we cannot rely on fees from parents who are poor and government funding is not available.

What is your project and how will it help?

The project is a school. It is situated in the Tassia area of Embakasi region in Nairobi, Kenya. The school has been running for eight months now, and it is called Bright Vision Learning Centre.

The school provides education to the poor children in the slum area where the school is located. Before our school was started the children were at home with no hope of an education. Our school offers them an opportunity to earn the one “weapon” that will help them secure better lives in the future and thus conquer ignorance in the society at large.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

We are requesting help in developing sustainable, long-term funding solutions so that these children can access quality, dependable education.

Currently, we are exploring incoming generating projects that will help sustain the school on a daily basis. Any other suggestions and directions are welcome.

Please detail the resources that you need.

Concerning the long term funding we are asking for:

  • assistance of rent payment which amounts to 600USD/month
  • assistance for food program which amounts to 1000USD/month

We also seek funding of 1100USD to start a chicken rearing project to sustain daily running of the school so as to be self reliant.

Other urgent concerns are:

- learning materials
- stationery
- desks
- clothes
- uniforms
- food
- transport (school van)
