Sewing machines and transport needed for women's project in Port-au-Prince, Haiti

Requested by

Fanm pou Fanm (Women for Women)

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

I am trying to help a small project of 35 women and their dependent families who are living in a tent city in Port-au-Prince Haiti after the earthquake two years ago. These women are learning skills in order to set up their own small businesses and so earn enough to send their children to school.

What is your project and how will it help?

Currently, the women are learning to crochet, but they really need sewing machines to help them women learn sewing and earn a living locally. Some of the women worked in factories sewing before the earthquake so they will be able to mentor the others. With a sewing machine of their own, they will be able to run their own business.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

Others can partner with us by giving/renting us space for 15 sewing machines on a container going from the UK to Haiti.
Or by donating working hand crank sewing machines.

Please detail the resources that you need.
