Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)- Italy

Unverified non-profit organisation

FAO was founded in 1945 with a mandate to raise levels of nutrition and standards of living, to improve agricultural productivity, and to better the condition of rural populations.

Today, FAO is one of the largest specialised agencies in the United Nations system and the lead agency for agriculture, forestry, fisheries and rural development. An intergovernmental organisation, FAO has 187 member countries plus one member organisation, the European Community. In crisis situations, FAO works in conjunction with the World Food Programme and other humanitarian agencies to help people rebuild their lives. The FAO is also a source of knowledge and information, providing behind the scenes assistance to help people help themselves.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Serving both developed and developing countries, FAO acts as a neutral forum where all nations meet as equals to negotiate agreements and debate policy, helping developing countries and countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition for all.
