Catholic Relief Services (CRS) was founded in 1943 by the Catholic Bishops of the United States and is the official international humanitarian agency of the U.S. Catholic community. CRS provides humanitarian relief and development assistance in over 100 countries worldwide. The CRS programme in Afghanistan has three distinct phases: relief and assistance to returning refugees and internally displaced people; rehabilitation,including rebuilding of infrastructure; and development, promoting peace and reconciliation.
