In Uzbekistan, American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee supports vulnerable and disabled people and provides social aids to invalids, single pensioners and members of needy families.. JDC also works to support the growth of a communal Jewish life. JDC’s efforts include delivery of meals and basic health care assistance to homebound elderly Jews, day centers for the elderly that provide social and cultural interaction and help with basic needs and specially trained staffs reaching out to impoverished and isolated Jews in remote locations with food, medicine, and winter relief. Through JDC’s Children’s Initiative, approximately 500 Jewish children from Uzbekistan are provided with food, medicine, clothing, and school materials.
