Sense International

Unverified non-profit organisation

Sense International is the only UK charity working exclusively to meet the needs of deafblind children and adults in developing countries as many of them are put in institutions, kept in isolation at home or literally left on the streets to fend for themselves in many countries.

Sense International works with local organisations to provide services and raise awareness of the needs of deafblind people so they can connect, participate and contribute to their communities.

Sense International operates in Bangladesh, East Africa, India, Latin America and Romania. Since 1994 they have established vision and hearing screening programmes for young children, trained health and education professionals and persuaded governments to build infrastructures of support and services for deafblind people and their families.

In order to ensure a lasting and sustainable impact they invest in local professionals and organisations, influence governments and advocate for change. By working in partnership with local organisations, schools, health services and governments, they enable deafblind children and adults to unlock their potential and participate as full members of their families, communities and wider society.
