Networking, Financial and Informational support for Awareness campaign about Urban Migration in Zimbabwe

Requested by

Chiyubunuzyo Arts and Culture Promotion

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

Chiyubunuzyo Arts & Culture Promotion (CACP) wants to help the community in Gokwe North Rural District in Zimbabwe. The target groups to benefit are the artists, women, youth, disadvantaged people and management committee members who will manage and implement our programs.

Gokwe North Rural District is traditionally a rich land and one of the highest yielding agricultural areas farmed by local farming communities in Zimbabwe. The land is rich and yielding as a result it was easy for local farmers to gravitate to medium scale commercial farming.

However, the district is faced by acute rural to urban migration of the youth. In the cities, they are exposed to ambiguous living, alcoholism, prostitution and their consequences. Youth falls into polygamy that often ends up in divorces, HIV and suicides. The job market is weak in the cities in Zimbabwe.

What is your project and how will it help?

CACP believes that if the youth realized the economic opportunities and cultural potential of their heritage they would not go into exile to the cities. CACP wants to help solve the problem through awareness campaigns and project set ups.

Main Objectives:
1. Promoting and developing art and culture programs.
2. Establishing art into a sustainable development, impart skills and talents collectively to promote active participation and instill a sense of ownership and pride.
3. Connecting people’s lives to the theme and its contribution to the economy.

Activities:
1. Project set up, recruitment and orientation.
2. Establish 23 Village Development Clubs
3. Carry out a multimedia awareness campaign for We Have A Rich Heritage, Shun Rural – Urban Migration.
4. Capacitate artists and entrepreneurs in business management for economic growth.
5. Opening up market outlets in Victoria Falls.
6. Enhance 8 office bearers in management skills.
7. Equip the VDCs with farming inputs and tools, and expertise to improve agriculture standards.

CACP’s contribution to the problems described:
By positively influencing the youth to
- Appreciate the life they have grown up under
- Motivation and capacitating them through awareness activities
- Training them into sustainable projects
- Boosting agriculture and entrepreneurship development

How can other people partner with you on your project?

- Ensuring the beneficiaries obtain networking support and sharing of ideas
- Implementation of programs affecting the communities
- Support for local initiatives, capacity building and agriculture
- Fostering structural development for the life-benefit of the remote wards of Gokwe Rural District.
