CARE is one of the world’s largest private international humanitarian organisations, committed to helping families in poor communities improve their lives and achieve lasting victories over poverty. CARE began operations in Honduras in 1954, providing emergency assistance to hurricane victims and running small-scale food programs. CARE officially established its country office in Honduras in 1959, beginning with food distribution programs and eventually moving toward a sustainable development program. CARE Honduras’ current projects include maternal and child health and nutrition, small enterprise development, agroforestry, irrigation, micro-watershed protection and environmental education.
