1.0 ABOUT TEANOFA
The East and Northern Family Association (TEANOFA) is a community-based Organization (CBO) that plays a leading role in a broader movement to create a new generation of engaged entrepreneurs prepared through both the formal schooling and non-formal adult and continuing education systems to build a sustainable economy. We do this through education& training, Membership development, public awareness & outreach activities (e.g. Sports, cultural galleasses), Capacity building, entrepreneurship development, savings and credit services, Research& advocacy as well as fundraising.
2.0 VISION, MISSION AND HOW WE THINK WE WILL GET THERE
The vision of TEANOFA is to have a world with opportunities for all young people to receive an education, assume leadership roles and achieve economic independence.

To this end, our mission is to create a new generation of engaged entrepreneurs prepared through both the formal schooling and non- formal adult and continuing education systems to build a sustainable socio-economic engine of Uganda and beyond. At TEANOFA we empower young people, families/households and communities from -the East and the greater Northern Uganda and the entire country at large to realize their potential by improving their access to transformative education and entrepreneurship support as a way of breaking the cycle of poverty, creating opportunities for employment and income, leadership growth and sustainable development.
We believe that young people are a powerful agent of change and giving them opportunities to do their work will advance their community and ultimately their nation. To further this belief, we focus on two main areas: education and entrepreneurship. Education and family and community are central in TEANOFA programs. Education is critical towards self-reliance, and an individual’s ability to pursue an active role in the community and in the civil society. The family is a critical unit for proper growth and integral survival for everyone; young and old. The community is a necessary environment for interaction, protection, psychosocial support, political, economic as well as continuity for future generation.

To this end, we connect a collaborative ecosystem of thought leaders: family (or household),school and community-mobilizing resources and inspiring awareness with a singular focus : strengthening TEANOFA organizational capacity, while ensuring that support and resources reach to those young people in households, schools and communities with the greatest opportunity for positive impact. By fostering direct action, young people in families/households, schools and communities are empowered toward a sense of personal triumph and shared responsibility, hence unlocking potential for lasting change.
3.0 TEANOFA CORE VALUES:
TEANOFA’s work is guided by seven core values. Our values underpin everything we do, from working with families(or households),schools and communities to partnering with organisations, individuals, and other stakeholders. They are the framework through which we deliver our strategy, the signposts that guide us on our path, and the pillars on which we lean in the most challenging of times.
3.1 PROFESSIONALISM

Professionalism involves consistently achieving high standards, both visibly and “behind the scenes” – whatever your role or profession. We strive to attain the highest standards in all that we do.

3.2 INTEGRITY:

Our actions and relationships with our stakeholder are characterized by honesty, openness, transparency, and accountability in all our dealings.

3.4 TEAMWORK:

TEANOFA values effective teamwork and collaboration when delivering professional services. We value and listen to others. We believe in the power of partnership to effect change in people’s lives. We are therefore committed to participatory decision making. We believe in promoting linkages and networking with Government and other development partners. to meet the organization’s mission and vision.

3.5 INCLUSIVENESS

We will work with others regardless of race, gender, age, creed, or nationality, colour, political affiliation, gender, or belief.

3.6 EMPOWERMENT
Mutually reinforcing economic, social, and political aspects of empowerment allows people to move out of poverty, through participating in, contributing to and benefiting from growth processes on terms which recognize the value of their contributions, respect their dignity, and make it possible for them to negotiate a fairer distribution of benefits of growth. The principles of empowerment, participation and inclusion are of central importance in the way they define and approach development.
Empowerment is the degree of autonomy and self-determination in people and in communities. This enables them to represent their interests in a responsible and self-determined way, acting on their own. TEANOFA helps people to develop their capability to critically analyze their own environment and issues directly affecting them. By this, people can identify and solve problems and are comfortable making decisions without the guidance of an external facilitator.
3.7 INNOVATIVENESS
Pursuing innovative and effective solutions, creative ideas, and ongoing improvement. Innovation is a key driver for our growth.

4.0 TEANOFA APPROACH
Development is a process of reflection and Action. Sustainable development must therefore involve beneficiaries and help them understand the real causes of their problems, take initiatives, be creative and participate in and organize action. The principles of empowerment, participation and inclusion are of central importance in the way they define and approach development. Empowerment, therefore, must happen through peoples’ own actions, enabled by a supportive environment which donors can help to strengthen. Empowerment has multiple meanings relating to power, participation, capability, choice, autonomy, and freedom.
We see disempowerment, marginalization, discrimination, exclusion, and voicelessness as one of the major causes as well as results of poverty, conflict, and suffering. We believe that unless people, can influence decisions that directly affect their lives, they will remain excluded from the mainstream development. Thus, inequity and power imbalances, adverse employment conditions and lack of economic opportunities or control over assets are all manifestations of peoples’ disempowerment and contributing to their poverty. Disempowerment whether defined in terms of a lack of self-confidence, apathy, fear, or an inability to take charge of one’s own life -is perhaps the most unrecognized problem in Africa. Economic growth needs to have a greater impact on poverty reduction if the millennium development goals (MDGs) can be met and the effects of the multiple global crisis overcome. Empowerment and pro-poor growth form a virtuous cycle.

4.1 REFLECT: A New Approach to Literacy and Social Change
The REFLECT method, a new approach to adult literacy techniques developed by ActionAid. REFLECT stands for Regenerated Freirean Literacy through Empowering Community Techniques. The approach seeks to build on Freirian theory but provide a more effective methodology by drawing on PRA visualisation methods. Participatory learning approaches, such as REFLECT, are based on a transformative model of adult literacy and learning is geared towards achieving collective power during the learning process itself and translating ideas into action. It combines broader adult literacy and social change. Participatory approaches are popular for generating and sharing new knowledge and developing a critical awareness have proven to be effective in diverse sectors including health, business development, agriculture, and natural resource management. To promote group members’ participation, the methodology draws together all relevant participatory tools from REFLECT to facilitate the process of exploring how various problems or situations link with poverty and how effective action(s) can be taken at individual, household, and community levels to solve or improve them. By mobilizing community members, the groups create a bridge between the community and NGOs, funders, extension, and health services, as well as other organizations and networks.
5.0 TRACK RECORD
TEANOFA has its roots in the East and Northern Student Association [TEANOSA] which was established in 2015 to promote unity, help one another as well as enabling prosperity and growth among its members. TEANOSA, the then student’s body played the leading role in convening the General Meeting which founded TEANOFA. TEANOFA acquired its legal status under registration no. 13398 when it was officially registered by Kabale District Local Government as a Community based organisation on 3rd October 2018. The new association would combine the former student and working-class members. TEANOFA was formed playing a leading role in a broader movement to create a new generation of engaged entrepreneurs prepared through both the formal schooling and non-formal adult and continuing education systems to build a sustainable economy. TEANOFA had time to re-group and it needed to implement innovative ways in developing a new strategy and different fundable programmes to tackle under employment and unemployment and poverty in the community.
Since its inception the association has been involved in a number of initiatives. TEANOFA savings and Credit cooperative society is the most remarkable one. Under this initiative TEANOFA hopes to establish a strong member only financial co-operative to provide innovative financial services while increasing the community savings, providing loans and offering financial education support to its members and their communities in poverty alleviation efforts.
TEANOFA has now embarked on financial literacy training. In partnership with the Micro Finance Support Centre (MSC), TEANOFA provides financial literacy training to its members. The Micro Finance Support Centre (MSC) is an agency owned by Government of Uganda, mandated to manage micro credit funds, and offer business Development services on behalf of government. Training in savings mobilisation and financial management for its SACCO members was successfully conducted on the 18th January 2020 at Town view Inn, Kabale by Mr Wambi Isaac from the Micro Finance Support Centre (MSC).
