Safe drinking water for orphanage in Uthukottai, North Tamil Nadu

Requested by

Annai Theresa Social Welfare Action Trust (ATSWA)

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

The main objective is to solve water crisis that hinders the daily activities of the children in our three homes for HIV-positive children and differently-abled children.

ATSWA runs these homes in Uthukottai. A total of 243 children are accommodated in three homes. 122 girls, 74 boys and 47 differently-abled children.

Putting up three bore-wells would help us to supply the home with safe drinking water and water to meet the basic needs of the home and children.

What is your project and how will it help?

Due to the acute water shortage from the failed monsoon season, our village along with surrounding villages face a water crisis. Without clean water it is difficult to provide a safe living environment for the children and mange our daily activities. Buying water everyday for cooking, drinking, and children’s use, however, is very difficult and expensive.

Therefore, we plan to put in three bore-wells on our children’s home campus which will provide a sustainable supply of safe water for the children.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

People can partner with us by:

1. Helping us obtain the necessary equipment and construct the bore-wells that will provide the sustainable safe water for the children.

2. Sponsoring the daily needs of the children such as food, clothing, etc. especially those pertaining to the unique needs of HIV-positive and differently abled children.

Please detail the resources that you need.

Budget details:
1. Putting up bore-wells – 2,750
2. Purchase of simtanks,
pipeline, pumping motor – 1,800
3. Labour costs – 800
Total – 5,350
Local contribution – 800
Amount Requested – 4,550 Euro.
