United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) - Ecuador

Unverified non-profit organisation

The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was established with the mission to provide a global framework to support the development and implementation of national and regional policies, programmes and measures to prevent, control and reverse desertification / land degradation. The Convention‘s action programmes are being developed through consultations among affected countries, donors, and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations. It also focuses on mitigating the effects of drought through scientific and technological excellence, raising public awareness, standard setting, advocacy and resource mobilization, thereby contributing to poverty reduction. Ecuador ratified the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in October 1995, and has since designed a National Action Programme (NAP) to combat desertification and mitigate the impacts of drought.
