Partners and funding assistance for the development and rehabilitation of water resources, Embu County, Kenya

Requested by

Kiritiri Water Resource Users' Association

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

Our target beneficiaries are the people living within the Kiritiri division of Mbeere south district – Embu County, Kenya.

Though the land in target area is fertile there is need to channel the available water to points accessible to the community.

Among the proposed methods of channeling the water is the construction of earth dams and weirs on the existing dry river beds to collect the water which is then re-directed for irrigation through the use of raw water piping and canals.

Wind propelled pumps may be used for boosting of the pressure to reach higher grounds and serve more people.

What is your project and how will it help?

We have already done visibility study and survey on a proposed dam – Kiriiri dam.

The dam, when constructed will have enough water to serve approximately 30,000 people, 14,000 livestock units and irrigate 800 acres of land through minor irrigation techniques.

By availing that kind of water the large part of the community will be domestic water secure while a significant portion will have secured an all year round farming source.

How can other people partner with you on your project?

We are calling in other persons and organizations to join us in securing the necessary funding to see the project through.

We are looking for donors who will offer grants, partners who will offer funds and/or services and those who may offer materials and capacity building support to the community and the developers.
