Orientation/Intensive Training on usage of Hardcopy Village Verification Registers

Requested by

Mchinji National Registration Bureau

Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?

I write to find out if you can fund/Support a Social Protection (Social Rights) Project which we would like to carry out in Mchinji District, Malawi for a period of nine months

I am a civil servant, working at Mchinji District Council in the Office of the President and Cabinet under the new department of National Registration Bureau (NRB. I am an Assistant District Registrar and my core duty is to implement the activities of Mchinji-NRB at district level.

NRB is in the process of introducing identification identities including Birth and Death Certificates. So far Mchinji NRB has distributed 581 Hardcopy Village Verification Registers (HVVRs) to all Village Heads recognized by the Assembly so that they have to record personal information of their subjects.

These HVVRs are a base entry point in our system and it is important that we carry out an intesive strong orientation/re-orientation of how Village Head have to use these HVVRs. The bio data collected will be used in many ways to protect the rights of the citizens of Mchinji especially the vunerable groups i.e. children, persons with disability, PLWHA, the aged, youths, orphans, women etc.

Following the numerous problems the Village Heads are having in putting data onto HVVRs, we intend to carry out an intensive re-orientation/orientation in the District and we are asking for funds/grants. Once implemented this project will greatly assist in having efficient and reliable data for economic use.

The bio data collected will greatly be used by various stakeholders including enhancing internal and international security, child trafficking, management of subsidy and targeted programmes, fight against border crimes, improve voter registration in the country.
