This foundation resulted from a merger between the Rufford Foundation and the Maurice Laing Foundation (MLF). Before the merger in 2002, MLF gave £1.6m in grants for welfare and youth projects in LDCs. The joint fund gives large scale grants to environmental, conservation, sustainable development programmes and AIDS programmes (latter mainly through Elton John AIDS Foundation). These grants average £20-50,000. Small grants are also available up to £5,000 for UK registered charities working in social welfare. Applicants should refer to the Foundation website for details.
