Two Ericsson employees were sent to the Democratic Republic of Congo on behalf of Ericsson Response. In collaboration with several humanitarian organizations, they established radio communication within the Kalabo region in order to support a UN coordinated de-mining mission.

On March 12, 2009, Lars Rüdiger – Master Systems Tester in Aachen (Germany) – and Tommi Sarhamo – Tester and Fault Analyst from Borås (Sweden) – left Stockholm to spend four weeks in Congo. “Getting to Kalabo was a mission in itself,” Tommy remembers. “It took us a full week and several stopovers before finally reaching our camp. Alone the last 200 kilometers from Kalemi to Kalabo took two days by car.” Once there, Lars and Tommi started their task of establishing a fully functional radio room for HF and VHF.

Lars and Tommi are both proud of having gone on this mission to Congo. “It’s a great benefit to do one’s job and at the same time play such a contributing role in helping the poor and displaced,” they both agree.
