Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?
Child Survival Aid Ghana is a community based organization assisting deprived children and orphans in the rural communities of North Tongu District by providing the assistance and support needed to access education. Our mission and wish is to build a strong foundation of hope and knowledge for their future. We aim to achieve this through promoting and advancing children’s rights to basic necessities which include education and other social services in order to assist their long term development.
In spite of our work, investment in education for children and social services in North Tongu District continues to be poor.
Indeed, due to the fact half of the population live in poverty and nearly 17% live in extreme poverty, we face the problem of a situation being even worse in rural areas and among indigenous populations. For instance, Mafi-Dedukope, the most deprived community in the North Tongu District also has one of the worst educational problems largely because of the lack of classrooms which forces children to sit outside when being taught.
Child Survival Aid Ghana seeks funding assistance to build a school to help these children.
What is your project and how will it help?
We believe that investing in educational infrastructure for children is one of the ways to break the cycle of poverty in rural communities. We hope to create a better tomorrow for these children.
Knowing that children and adolescents compose more than half of North Tongu District population, the investment in education is an investment that will bear fruit for decades to come. For instance, an amount of $50,000 invested in education will educate 1000s of children in the coming decades, and will give support to the community.
Many of the existing schools in the area are constructed very poorly, with walls made of tin slabs, no windows, and with dirt floors, which negatively impact on the children in the classroom. These terrible learning conditions allow the children to think it’s better to give up their education to do things where they can earn money.
We seek funding and support to purchase materials to build a school and to provide basic furniture to children in the North Tongu District. We first aim to build a six (6) unit classrooms in Mafi-Dedukope.
