Orphanage for Suffering Children, Congo
Requested byBethlheim maison du pain
Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?
Bethlheim Maison du Pain is trying to provide assistance to street children and other vulnerable young people by opening an orphanage in Kinshasa. Our target group includes 50 children of 6 to 13 years old, especially girls. We focus on street children, refugees, displaced, considered sorcerers, associated with armed groups and forces, have trouble with the law, depraved of freedom, orphaned, malnourished, prostitutes, disabled or carrying HIV/AIDS.
Bethlheim Maison du Pain aims to prevent those children from facing exploitation, violence, marginalisation, or maltreatment. It also aims at ensuring health and nutrition, education, protection and justice to the 50 children that the orphanage could host.
What is your project and how will it help?
In order to conduct our mission, we will build an orphan centre with a capacity of hosting 50 children. The orphanage will comprise of one dormitory, one refectory, a large courtyard, three toilets, 3 showers, one health centre, one kitchen, a food store, an non food store, one office for the educators and one for the supervisor. Our project is to support the children vital needs and offer them psychological assistance, education and professional training, but also to investigate the possibilities for a reunification of the children with their families or to identify a foster family. We finally also want to open a second centre, for boys only.
We will also attempt to launch different projects to teach or improve the children’s skills: We would like to open a hair salon and a sewing studio for the trained children to be able to become independent. We would like to build a modern health centre with a nutritional department, a reproduction department, a HIV voluntary screening department and a counseling department. We want to open a school and a professional training institute to promote literacy and remedial lessons for girls especially and to train children to domestic professional activities. We also wish to open a cyber cafe and use its income to cover a part of the orphan centre expenses.
