Funding for humanitarian shipment to the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Requested byCrossroads Foundation
Who are you trying to help? What issue are you trying to address?
Crossroads is sending a container of humanitarian aid to our partners in DR Congo, where problems faced by internally displaced people and those trying to reintegrate into society in the aftermath of war and internal conflict are enormous.
Projects which address these issues need support to promote local conflict resolution, education and training, as well as practical aid.
What is your project and how will it help?
There are three consignees for a shipment which is ready to load. One organisation has founded schools known as ‘Farms of Hope’, targeted and established in areas that have been struck hardest by war, conflict and HIV/Aids. The schools are places where street children, orphans, child soldiers and children who are HIV positive can find education, training, rehabilitation and comfort from the traumas they have been involved in.
We are sending school supplies, clothing, toys, sports equipment, bicycles, as well as medical equipment for their clinic. Another project to benefit specialises in conflict resolution and community development, and requires equipment for its job creation programmes, including sewing machines which will be used to help women regain their dignity and self reliance. The third has a programme to help street children and other disadvantaged young people, and again supplies for the children and for the organisation’s offices will be sent.
How can other people partner with you on your project?
We are looking for funding to allow goods which have already been donated to be transported from Hong Kong to the recipients in DRC.
Please detail the resources that you need.
We aim to approach shipping companies for freight which is free of charge. The shipping container and inland transportation will amount to approx US$ 8695, and this is what we need to raise. Offers in kind of transportation Hong Kong to Dar-es-Salaam or inland would also be very welcome.
