Snapshot Mobile Cinema is registered non-governmental, grassroots initiative established in May 2005. It is a community cinema that uses films, documentaries and live art performances to educate, entertain and inspire young people to become engaged in the fight against teenage pregnancy HIV/AIDS, Rape and Crime. Snapshot organizes and develops community activities through using simple equipment and technology.
The project soul is to bring about information (using accessible and simple medium) to influence and enhance the people’s lives [both young and old]. This project is based in Khayelitsha.
The work that Snapshot does is socially and relevant hence it addresses topics ranging from HIV /AIDS to abuse and crime.
In 2007, Snapshot mobile cinema had a splendid invitation in 48 hour festival which was organized by MTV Staying Alive Foundation (Canada).
In 2008 we produced a documentary film called SHIFTED EXPECTATIONS, film based on teenage pregnancy and HIV& AIDS.
In 2009 we produced second documentary film called Get Real the film is about relationships, communication, parental role and reality taking responsibility in fight against unprotected sex, we know that is one of the challenges that our country is facing with at the moment especially schools.
Although Snapshot function as advocacy tool for social justice and the impetus has arisen from the actual situations of the communities in which we live.
We are in need of funding for our outreach school program targeting learner’s age between 12 – 23 years. All will take place in 15 High schools of Khayelitsha and other surroundings of Cape Town.
