United Kingdom Humanitarian Customs Regulations

This informations was submitted in response to a questionnaire distributed by Global Hand regarding humanitarian customs information for importing humanitarian aid into the United Kingdom.

Tax Exemption

The procedures relating to tax relief and imports by charities can be found on Her Majesty’s Revenue&Customs website ( http://www.hmrc.gov.uk ) in the Notice 317 under ‘Public Notices’ in the section headed ‘import, export&international trade’. Further information can also be found in the section ‘Internal Guidance R6-1’. Currently, there are no notices dealing with the importation or exportation of humanitarian aid. HM Revenue&Customs has informed us that they occasionally receive requests for telephonic advice on the exportation of humanitarian aid. For more specific information contact the Customs and International Trade Liability Team in the UK, or HM Revenue&Customs.
