Merrill Lynch commits $5 million to develop "Worldwidekids" Initiative

Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organisation behind Sesame Street, and Merrill Lynch have teamed up to launch the WorldwideKids initiative, a groundbreaking financial literacy program for children.

Merrill Lynch has committed $5 million to develop the WorldwideKids initiative with Sesame Workshop, which will include multimedia educational tools and resources for educators, caregivers and parents to prepare three to six year-olds to become “global citizens”. The initiative builds on the success of Talking Cents, Merrill Lynch and Sesame Workshop’s financial literacy program for children. The program will focus on issues such as diversity, compassion, accountability and good financial habits.

Sesame Workshop will develop materials in concert with an international advisory board comprising academics, educators, parents and caregivers. The initiative will encompass a range of platforms including DVDs, a web portal, activities and printed resources spanning 14 countries and seven languages. Merrill Lynch employees in North America, South America, Asia and Europe will serve as volunteers at preschools, community centers and child care agencies.
