The Women’s Emancipation and Development (WED) Trust is a grass roots Indian NGO. WED’s aim is the building of a gender just society with self sustaining economically independent and politically empowered women.

WED’s major activities are the prevention of female infanticide, feticide and violation against women; and the socio-economic, cultural and political empowerment of women. WED Trust has established 145 women’s groups with a membership of more than 2500; prevented more than 700 girl children from female infanticide and provided more than 50 girl children for adoption. WED Trust has also amicably solved more than 2500 family issues through counselling and legal assistance, and has helped more than 1,500 women with money for their income-generating projects. WED Trust has also been involved in a large number of other initiatives, details of which can be found on the website (see below). In addition, WED Trust has won awards for its social work programme.
