Initiative to provide feminine hygiene relief to Uganda
General information
Overall description
Millie & More (Moxie) is an Australian feminine hygiene company. We’ve been doing some research into the devastating effects of Ugandan school girls missing school due to menstruation and we’re looking to start a program in 2013 where we donate a large quantity of sanitary pads.
We’re essentially looking to do this through a charity that works in Uganda and I was wondering if Global Hand could assist with this.
Timing
In terms of timing, we'd be looking to commence this in March (with an initial donation in March) with a large donation at the end of the year. We’d be looking to commit for approximately one year at this stage.Partnership types

International Youth Council South Sudan Chapter
(Unverified non-profit organisation)
Geoffrey Ochieng Alala says: This is a wonderful opportunity. We as International Youth Council South Sudan are very interested in your offer. The South Sudanese School girls are the most affected and % drop out due to menstruation and pregnancy cases is overwhelming. Most schools do not have female teachers who can educate and mentor the girls in menstrual circle and good life.It is for this reason that we seek you help to extension your offer to Republic of South Sudan, Easter Equatoria state next to norther Uganda through Nimule. Your assistance shall help and empower the young and old girls still attending primary and secondary schools. For your information, South Sudan is still industrialized and basically everything is imported from Uganda, Kenya and neighboring countries. Since majority of traders importing are men and do not understand the use of sanitary towels, most do not import and the few that comes in are charged very highly that the girls cannot afford. We as a youth forum have started to create awareness and advocating for sanitary towels for all school girls and your assistance will be handy.
Thank You
Regards
Geoffrey Alala

Hope 4 Health & Development (H4HD) is engaged in empowering and improving on the quality of life of the rural and urban poor in Busoga region in eastern Uganda, one of the region impoverished by poverty which explains why many children especially girls failing to advance in education because of economic biting situation, many can not afford to get sanitary pads which keeps them away from school during menstrual periods hence leading to frequent absenteeism and high school dropouts. So please consider us as recipients when it comes to distribution of these sanitary facilities we believe they will make a big difference in the lives of the lessfortunate children in Busoga region in Uganda

Sharon Sandy says: Bor Orphanage & Community Education Project Inc.
Our work is based in Sth Sudan, so I think we are not your target group but I thought it can't hurt bto tell you about us anyway. We are sending a donated shipping container to Bor, Sth Sudan filled with supplies for orphan children. The children are recovering from war, many having witnessed the deaths of parents and other loved ones. We have been collecting schoolbags & supplies, blankets, underwear etc. Sadly, the girls are forced to use leaves, pieces of bark etc when they are menstruating. AS many do not have clothing, even underwear, they are often forced to hide away at this time. Our focus now is on an underwear drive and if we can collect sanitary pads too, it would be enormously helpful.
