Free training videos in Kiswahili
General information
Overall description
Jambo!
I am reaching out to like-minded organisations like yours to invite you to share two free educational films produced by Haller: One about farming and the other about health. Each is divided into chapters that are around 15 minutes long and has been filmed in Kiswahili. They are available on DVD (email me and I will put them in the post to you) and are online on Vimeo.
Watch them now:

Haller is an NGO which promotes a model for economic development that is sustainable and environmentally sound. Our work is based on the techniques of the award winning environmentalist Dr Rene Haller who is renowned for his restoration of cement quarries in Kenya — now Haller Park.
We have adopted the methods he has developed over many years to bring economic security to small holder farmers living in arid and degraded land. We help them to develop their community with an integrated set of programmes in organic farming, water access and environmental and health education. These programmes are then a catalyst for communities to start small scale enterprises.
FARMER TRAINING FILM
Haller works extensively with the Ministries of Agriculture and Fisheries, but we believe that more needs to be done to share this education directly with farmers. Agriculture is the backbone of Kenya, and the livelihood for many people, yet many of the rural farmers live below the poverty line.
This training film covers:
Land Preparation and organic farming
Chickens and fish aquaculture
Alternative energies
HEALTH TRAINING FILM
While healthcare is not Haller’s primary focus, we have an excellent team responsible for health training and have been recognized by the Ministry of Health as a centre of excellence for rural outreach. This film demonstrates some family planning tools we have developed to help rural women and girls plan when to have their families. For more information about these tools — such as the repro ruler and bracelet — please do get in touch!
We hope you will use these films as part of the training you already provide and will want to share them with your network of contacts. If you need more information from us, let us know.
In addition, we offer 3-day farmer training courses at our demonstration farm in Mombasa.
This is a typical sized farm shamba where we demonstrate many different ways of growing food using simple, low cost and replicable techniques – many of which are unique, and a function of the many years of research conducted by Dr Haller. These are typically attended by local farmers, youth groups, self help groups, and other NGOs.
If you would like more information or are interested in attending one of our training courses, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me or either our UK director, Louise Piper louise@haller.org.uk or Sonal Singh, Dr Haller’s assistant at Haller Kenya, sonal.singh@thebaobabtrust.com
I do hope you can find time to watch and use the films.
Yours sincerely
Tory Douglass Kingdon

John Savill (Transport Aid Services) says: Hello,
Are copies of these films still available?
I am currently supporting and praying for a two Kenyan friends of mine, both of whom could use these films. Lucy is a Program Officer for the Population Council in Nairobi, she and the Poulation Council, could make use of the Health Training Film.
My other friend Boniface works for OPAM (Organisation of HIV Positive African Men) based in UK and Kenya, he is also currently working for OPAM in Nairobi.
Both of these NGO's would find these very helpful.
I can forward to them directly. Thank you.
