Watoto Wasoka

Unverified non-profit organisation

WATOTO WASOKA is a local NGO based in the heart of Kampala’s largest slums. They are a non-profit, youth–led community development organization which uses the vibrant passion for football as a vehicle for positive social change in the life of slum and street children.

Watoto Wasoka’s mission is to create purposeful opportunities for play in a safe environment. The aim is to change lives of slum children in Uganda through football – one game at a time. They also facilitate access to primary and secondary education for slum and street kids. Through their close ties with the local slum football scene and public and private schools, they have a unique network which has enabled more than 400 kids to attend school which they would otherwise not have. The group also runs two of Uganda’s most exciting football events for disadvantaged youths: the annual Christmas Camp and Slums Derby, whose last editions were attended by 1,800 and 600 kids from all across Uganda respectively.

Besides football, Watoto Wasoka also offers health education (WASH / HIV/AIDS), vocational training (ICT), school / homework support and a place to call home and go to either during school holidays or when times are too rough. Regular workshops with external partners on relevant topics such as drug abuse for our kids are also organized.
