Women Initiative for Prosperity (WIP)

Unverified non-profit organisation

The Women’s Initiative for Prosperity (WIP) is a Ugandan community-based NGO. The organisation uses a holistic approach in its development projects. This ensures that projects are not only focused on restoring people and their communities to their pre-crisis conditions, but also on establishing a process that enables communities to build a self sufficient and self sustaining lifestyle.

WIP’s current programme includes the Women’s Empowerment Programme that teaches women practical skills for income generation and provides start-up capital in the form of equipment and other materials. The Widows and Elderly Women’s Handicraft Project provides materials and teaches women how to make handicrafts which can be sold as a means of income. The project also acts as a support group within the community where the women can make friends and share the challenges of being vulnerable. The STDs/ STIs HIV/AIDS Prevention & Counselling Programme for Rural Communities provides free counselling services and blood tests.
