The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an independent organisation whose mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence, and to provide them with assistance. It focuses on the incorporation of international humanitarian law into national legislation and military training in countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, on the protection of detainees and on humanitarian concerns arising from the 1990-1991 Gulf War. The ICRC works in cohesion with national Red Crescent societies in the region.
