African Gender Institute

The African Gender Institute (AGI) is based at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Established in 1999 by women academics concerned about gender inequality in Africa, AGI runs an undergraduate and post-graduate programme in gender studies, publishes a journal and a newsletter, and sponsors a number of funded projects aimed at strengthening gender and women’s studies in Africa. AGI is also building a resource base for academics and others involved in gender research.
