How does Global Hand verify NGOs?

To be verified by Global Hand in order to respond to offers on the site, non-profit organisations must be able to provide the following.

Common requirements

All organisations seeking verification MUST supply:

  • copy of the certificate of registration
  • copies of their purpose statement, with description of activity and focus
  • acceptance of Global Hand’s User Agreement including commitment to accountability in reporting
  • reference from a verified Global Hand participant.
  • agreement to comply with Global Hand standards, as published.
  • agreement to attend a Global Hand meeting in region once every three years
  • fee
    • for organisations with cash income of over USD500,000 – minimum one-off donation of USD1,000
    • for organisations with cash income below USD500,000 – one-off donation of choice.

Selected requirements

Because governmental and legal requirements vary from country to country, it has been considered important to offer flexibility in the following in order to offer, it is hoped, a fair opportunity for any deserving organisation to be accredited with Global Hand.

In addition to the common requirements, organisations MUST submit selected requirements from the following, scoring a minimum of (10) points.

It is essential to have selected a minimum of 1 item from each of the “Financial” section and the “Further” section.

Financial

  • Last two years’ audited financial statements – 4 points
  • Last 2 years’ annual tax reports or equivalent government lodgements – 2 points
  • History of grants received with reports of distribution and financial expenditure.
    (No detail to be more than five (5) years old.) – 4 points

Further

  • Reference from a second Global Hand verified organisation – 3 points
  • Up to two references from an internationally recognized NGOs or UN agencies
    (3 points each) – 3 points
  • History of project partnerships including details of any shipments received (container equivalents). Include here names of partnering agencies with outcome report – 2 points
  • List of board members with full contact information for each – 1 point
