The Ford Foundation works to reduce poverty and injustice, strengthen democracy, promote international cooperation and advance human achievement by funding projects that build knowledge and strengthen organisations and networks. Grants must be for charitable, educational or scientific activities, be in line with one of the foundation's programmes (currently there are three), and likely to have a wide effect. Grants are not normally given for routine operating/maintenance costs, construction of buildings, or religious activities.
